A sacred space welcoming all to worship, grow, and serve together.
The Story of Trinity’s Campus
Trinity United Methodist Church has a story to tell. For more than sixty years, Trinity has sought to be Christ’s church—sharing the gospel, offering comfort and peace, and providing help and friendship to the Beaumont community and beyond.
Our story begins in the late 1940s and early 1950s, when Beaumont experienced rapid population growth in the north and west ends of town. Recognizing the need for a new Methodist congregation, fifty Methodists gathered in 1953 to establish a church in “West Beaumont.” The first assembly was held at the Gaylynn Theater on August 30, 1953, uniting 153 charter members. Rev. Charles Williams became the first pastor that September, and by December the church had purchased eleven acres at its current location for just over $67,000. Worship then moved to the Harvest Club while plans for building began.
By June 1954, a three-phase master plan was adopted: first, a fellowship hall to serve as a temporary sanctuary, with a kitchen and classrooms; second, a youth center, chapel, and more classrooms; and third, a permanent sanctuary. With a $30,000 gift from First Methodist Church of Beaumont, groundbreaking for the Fellowship Hall took place on October 24, 1954. Construction began in November, and the first service was held on December 18, 1955. Membership that year reached 497.
Growth continued with the Educational Building groundbreaking in January 1958. On March 10, 1962, construction began on the sanctuary, which was consecrated on September 13, 1964. The pipe organ was dedicated that November, and the chapel followed in October 1965.
The sanctuary and campus were designed by Wallace B. Livesay and Tom B. Livesay, with Nuel B. Harmeson contributing to the sanctuary. Art glass windows by Odell Prather of Jacoby Studios add beauty and light, and the entry sculpture by Texas artist David Cargill remains a cherished feature. A west wing addition in 2001 continued Trinity’s legacy of thoughtful growth.
Through seasons of change and renewal, Trinity has remained steadfast in its mission to bring Christ into a changing world. These buildings stand as lasting witnesses to the faith, vision, and generosity of generations who made space for God’s work in Beaumont.
